Choosing the right visa


I wish to study full-time


If you are studying full-time for more than three months in Australia and have been guaranteed a place at an education institution then you will need a student visa.


Student visa attributes:

  • You are allowed to live in Australia for the whole duration of your course
  • You can leave and come back to Australia numerous times during the course of your stay
  • When you are studying you can work as much as 20 hours a week and as much as you want during course breaks or holidays
  • Dependant family persons may be able to come with you (conditions apply)
  • Eligible family members may work up to 20 hours a week
  • Your partner is allowed to study up to 3 months


Your Student visa application will be graded in accordance with your Assessment Level and applicable requirements effected by your nationality and main subject of study.
       

I hope to study while on holiday
 
A Tourist visa is needed if you are thinking of doing short term study
while visiting Australia for a holiday


Holiday visa attributes:

  • Length of stay – 3, 6 or 12 months
  • A study period of up to 3 months
  • You can either have a single or multiple entry into Australia
  • You are not allowed to work 

 

I want to study and work
 
A Working Holiday visa is needed if you want to do a short-term course whilst on holiday, and pay for the cost by working.

Working Holiday visa attributes:

  • You will need a passport from a nation that participates in the Working Holiday Program
  • You can stay up to 12 months in the country
  • 4 months study time is granted
  • You are allowed several entries to Australia
  • Part-time or full-time work is granted for up to 6 months with each employer
  • Age requirement – 18yrs – 30yrs
